Oh the joys of another great find. It’s like finding a $20. in the pocket of an old pair of jeans. I’m a sucker for Thai food. It’s right up there with Indian and Vietnamese, so you can imagine my delight when I land upon a small Thai restaurant that is nice to my wallet and best buds with my taste buds.

So we walk into this place and it’s really long and narrow. Most of the seating is for two, as you can see, so don’t plan on having company parties here or anything. This place was quaint, charming, clean and fresh.

We started our meal off with these Summer Roll, $3.50. No that is not a miss print, they were really $3.50. So far, that’s the cheapest I’ve found on this island. As for taste, they were amazing. Just staring at the pictures now bring back fond memories of me eating them.

Next we have Spring Rolls, $5.95 for five rolls. Spring rolls are always a good choice. These crispy rice paper wrapped around ground pork and mixed vegetables. Plus, it came with a dipping sauce and garnish that you could actually eat. So after we were done I shredded greens and made a very tasty salad.

Up next we have Laab Beef Salad, $7.95 mixed with lime juice, rice flour, mint, parsley and onions served with cucumbers and cabbage. If your one of those people that love meat and not a lot of veggies, this is the salad Mother Nature intended for you. It had more meat than greens. For me it was slightly too salty, but I think for most it would be perfect. Besides that it was perfect in flavor, color, presentation, portion and price.

Another dish that is always a good choice is Curry Chicken, $6.95. I suggest the yellow curry like the one you see in the picture. This was chicken, sauteed with chili, coconut mild, potato and carrots. If you wanted shrimp it was only $1.00 more. One dollar more, for shrimp, I love it. I don’t recall if the rice came with it or not, but if it didn’t, I don’t reckon it would of cost more than $1.00. And yes I did say “reckon,” and no I’m not a hick or from Texas. Back to the curry, it was out of this world good. In my opinion you can always judge a good Thai Restaurant by it’s curry. If the curry is good, then chances are everything else will be good.

Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken, $6.95, stir-fried with rice, egg, peas, carrots, pineapple and cashew nuts. I was really surprised at how good this fried rice was. The cashews was a nice surprised and the pineapple was fresh, not the can stuff. Everything just worked well together. One of the tastiest fried rice I’ve had in a while.

There you have it, another great find. I love this place and will most definitely be back. As for the dessert, they do have it and by the time we had finished our lunch we had no room for dessert. This is yet another reason to order dessert as an appetizer, that way there will always be room.

If it’s good as you say, and with the prices, it’s a good deal!

Nice find! I have been following your food blog for some time and always enjoy your unique perspective. We also try to eat well on a budget. Since I noticed you guys are on the Windward side a fair amount….might I suggest…Chao Phya Thai in Kaneohe’s Windward City Shopping Center. It’s not dirt cheap but the prices are comparable to “Thai Cuisine.” The food is the freshest most delicious Thai food I’ve found on the island. I recommend the Pad Thai, spring rolls, stuffed drumsticks, or ginger mahi. Everything we’ve tried is good.

I have some pretty amazing Chinese suggestions in Kaneohe too if you are interested. Keep posting, people are reading.

    Aloha,

That’s what I’m fucking talking about. I love comments like that. It just made my day. Thanks a bunch for reading. As for Chao Phya Thai, that’s where I’m headed next, well, next time I have Thai. Give it a week. Thanks for the suggestions, and thanks for reading. If there’s anything I can do to improve my blog, please let me know.

tried this place after your recommendation and was thoroughly disappointed. it wasn’t even okay. we ordered chicken satay sticks. 5 small pieces for likes $6 bucks. not bad but still pretty puny pieces and the flavor was lacking, sauce junk. we also shared the lardna which is flat chow funn noodles with chicken and thai broccoli. Normally they use chinese broccoli which is similar to choi sum but tastes slightly bitter. this dish used just plain ol broccoli. the portion size was half what you would find elsewhere and the sauce again was junk. they uses a lot of white pepper. my fav thai place of all time has got to be mekong II which is on s. beretania st. across of Times close to Makiki. even though I’m all the way out in Mililani and have tried places elsewhere, this is still my fave. there’s a lot of mekong’s like I,III but this is the best. try the fish with yellow bean sauce, seafood tom yum soup, shrimp with garlic, pad thai, yellow curry (they don’t cook the carrots all the way so it’s still al dente. I don’t like that part but my husband loves it nonetheless).
I have also been following your food blog and love it. always great pics. sorry for the comment, felt like I had to say something cuz it was quite a disappointment:(

That sucks. I was so excited about this place. I really appreciate your honesty. Everyones experience is different. Also you ordered completely different dishes than I did so I’m sure your dishes were junk, but my dishes were golden. As for Mekong, yes I have been there. I didn’t have my camera that day, but I remember being really happy with the food, but the dishes were a little pricey. Thanks for the comment and thanks for reading. Please feel free to leave more suggestions and comments, even bad ones.
