Kozo Sushi to me is equivalent to fast food but for sushi. Now I don’t mean that in a bad way. Sushi has never made me feel like a blubber butt after consuming it so fast food sushi can’t be that bad. If you’ve been on the island for some time you’ve probably seen a few Kozo’s around. Kozo Sushi’s are always hiring. A lot of times you’ll find a young buck back there rolling your sushi. Just like fast food, they’ll hire just about anyone, “experience not necessary.” I put that in quotes because I swear I read that on their sign once.

If your wondering why there’s no tables in this photo, it’s because there are none. I was standing in the corner trying to snap a photo of the whole place. See, what I mean by fast sushi, don’t plan on eating inside, Kozo is more of a take out kind of place. However, there are tables out front that paying customers from Star Bucks, Jamba Juice, and Kozo Sushi all share, first come first serve.

This is the Philly Maki, $3.99. As you can see, they were pretty skimpy with the cream cheese today, but no worries I stilled enjoyed this just as well.

The Spicy Ahi Maki, $5.25 is not so spicy but still just as tasty.

Ahh, the good o’ classic California Maki, $3.89, will never go out of style. I Prefer mine with as little mayo as possible.

What I don’t suggest is getting a Hand Roll from this place. Some retard came up with this wrap and it’s the most annoying thing. Basically the rice is separate from the wrapper so you have to unwrap it just to wrap it up again.

But at no more than a couple of bucks for one, sometimes I’ll just have to deal with it.
If your in the mood for fast, cheap, simple sushi Kozo sushi can’t be beat.

I prefer my sushi to be delivered on a conveyor belt.

Kozo Sushi has similar taste to Genki, but I never go there because of a bad experience I had a couple years back. Got some sushi from there and got really sick after eating it.

Anyone remember one of the first Kozo Sushi shops on Sheridan Street nearly 20 years ago?

Nate » 20 years ago? Wow, that’s a long time ago. If it’s still there it should be a landmark.

Dale » oh, that sucks. I hate bad experiences like that because they tramatize you.

Marvo » that’s very lazy of you.

The Kozo Sushi site on Sheridan is now under the parking structure of WalMart/Sam’s Club.

I went to the same Kozo location, and when I asked the young man working the register if I could take a photo inside, he said “no”. I was kinda’ surprised. As if he cared. lol
Fortunately my “Lunch Box” was excellent. As I said on my review of the place, Kozo has never disappointed me.
I might try that Spicy Ahi Maki next time. Sounds interesting. I’ve heard of folks who are Spicy Ahi sushi enthusiasts. Are you one?
As always, your pictures are f#@^$!~g great!

Pomai » That’s odd that someone wouldn’t allow you to take a photo. I guess that’s why I never ask. I just pretend like I’m a typical Asian tourist and just snap away as they do.

Pomai » Oh, as for the spicy sushi enthusiasts, I love spicy ahi, but I wouldn’t call myself an enthusiast, sounds like a bold statement.

the wrapper is there to keep the rice and nori separate so the nori is still crispy when you actually eat it. i like that.

Are you stupid? The packaging is ingenious. It will keep the rice and the nori separate so it doesn’t get soggy on the drive back to Kailua or wherever you live.
